This area seemed to have a lot to do with Identity. From dark rooms with electronic devices to masks of feathers, there were ideas from all over. The first was called Consider Beauty and it had beautiful typography on the wall. The words are in the language of its creator.
The next piece was a video on the wall that showed two Norwegian (?) women and a lot of beautiful imagery. I still had no idea what to expect from any of the work. This was called Winter Garden.
I’m going to call this next piece Hero. Cool idea, especially for those of us who love the choose-your-own-adventure idea. You enter a dark room and stand on a pedestal with A B and C buttons. The screen asks questions and you answer. The next screen makes a typing noise as the next story or question comes up. There are only about 4 steps, you make a choice and then the floor of the pedestal starts moving like a treadmill and the back wall shows an explosion along with a loud sound. The front screen states that you are a hero. See the images below.
Birdy 2214 shows some very cool forms with feathers attached. The gas mask with feathers is especially interesting.
Ownership of the Face played with elements that can shift to create the face. The most dynamic pieces were the video of the woman making faces and the lips moving around in the case.
New Survivalism had many pieces. I would’ve liked to spend more time here and investigate the many layers that complement the words written.
